Shipping on the Slow Boat to America

Here's the question:

Hey do you know how much the slow boat costs roughly. Lets say I wanted to ship a box from Korea to NYC, filled with clothes and what not.  Lets say it weighs 50 pounds. How does one go about doing this?

This is a pretty simple one. Since you don't want to deal with FedEx, you can simply visit your local post office. Before going, I'd spend a few minutes looking over the English site of the Korean post office. United States (as well as Canada and the UK) are in Zone 2. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are in Zone 3.

Shipping a box around 50lbs (22kg) looks like it'll cost around 40,000 KRW if you go the surface route. By air, it'll run you 120,000 KRW and SAL will cost about 150,000 KRW. If time is not an issue, sending it by boat is easily the cheapest method. There are a few other fees you might want to consider as well before shipping it, but it's pretty simple.

Unfortunately booking a ticket for human passage on a cargo ship bound for U.S. is insanely expensive. So much for my dream of returning home via freighter.

Really? I never considered such a trip, but that would be amazing. How much are we talking? And do you have a link?

The only other fee you need to worry about is the cardboard (boat shipping) box that you must buy at the post office to ship via that method. They come in several sizes with the biggest costing less than 2,000 won, but you can only ship up to 20 kilograms this way (44 lbs.) and that would run you 48,000 won to the United States. So far, it's taken less than a month for each of my boxes to arrive, bu they are going to a major seaport city.

Insurance is an option as well.

I've shipped boxes home and never payed more than 30,000. Of course I just put stuff in a box, took it to the post office and they took care of the rest. Whether it went by air or ship, I dunno.

Really how hard is this?

Is there a best way to actually pack things into the boxes so that my belongings stay in tact when they arrive? Dishes of course are a concern, but with books and clothes, does it really matter? Any tips/advice before I start packing everything in????

This is one such blog which highly informs and has alarmed me with the benefit of shipping products via boat. I would recommend all that to ship a box by boat is easily the cheapest method. At the same time, adding the cost of transportation from seaport city to desired city, the total cost will be less expensive.

I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
